Claim Your FREE Counting Glass NOW

Across the wire mesh industry, the traditional importance of counting glasses cannot be overstated. These tools incorporate a magnifier and a measuring scale that allow users to count the number of apertures or threads within any given mesh or textile (which is why they are also referred to as linen testers).

Wire mesh was traditionally woven with a mesh count based on wires per linear inch — hence the need for a measuring scale for the courser meshes and a measuring scale with a magnifier for the finer meshes. When placed on a piece of mesh, the counting glass magnifies the mesh and allows the user to more easily count against the calibrated base plate scale to ensure the required density has been achieved during production.

Our co-founder, Neil Burns, recalls his very first day at a Warrington based Wire Weaving Company, at the age of 18 years old: “That first day I was issued with what we call in the mesh industry a Counting Glass. I did not fully comprehend then just how vital — and well used — this tool would be, but it was an essential tool for my job and for quality control back then.”

At Croft we wanted to acknowledge our past, even as we move into the future, and so we are giving away a series of counting glasses free.
