How a Fax Machine Laid the Foundation for Our Success

A simple piece of technology transformed the way we communicated, making it seamless to send and receive product sketches.

Did you know that one of our very first investments was the humble fax machine? At a time when communicating designs meant tedious verbal descriptions over the phone, the purchase of the fax machine was transformative.

This early investment enabled us to seamlessly send and receive detailed sketches electronically, ensuring clarity, something that was uncommon at the time. It was a pivotal moment that demonstrated our commitment to adapting and improving something we still do today.

The cost of our first fax machine was £1,700, and it was placed on finance over three years. This was a huge investment compared to our first lathe, which we purchased for just £500. The lathe was a machine used in the 1940s as part of the war effort, and at Croft, we still utilise it today for certain jobs that cannot be done with any other machine or process.
